What is Smart Tooling?

Smart tools are tools such as screwdrivers, callipers and torque wrenches that have the ability to collect data in real time and use it to effectively monitor and control a process.

They also have the ability to connect with other equipment in real time, both to receive control commands and to transmit quality data.

Smart tools enable greater traceability, automated feedback, automated parameter selection and OK/NOK (not ok) responses for automated rework routing. Smart tools allow for greater governance over manufacturing operations and for the gathering of data that can be fed into manufacturing execution systems (MES).
