Digital Twin in COREF

A key aim of COREF is to reduce the barrier to entry for SMEs by de-mystifying the technology associated with setting-up the infrastructure required for a Digital Twin.

So users can investigate what architectures – such as the Internet of Things (IoT) platforms – are available, along with their pros and cons and how they fit their business model. As a standard (BS 2347) already exists for Digital Twins, COREF helps SMEs understand and assess how it applies to them. It also helps users think beyond dashboards, to achieve interactive, immersive interaction with data.

In terms of facilities, COREF provides a manufacturing cell for producing data for a Digital Twin, consisting of a Cobot, multiple position and location sensors, a vision system, call PLC and associated HMI.

Digital twins are revolutionizing the way manufactures across many sectors operate, by bringing together the physical and digital worlds. However there is still a lack of common understanding on their purpose and the development required for successful deployment. Through the work of the COREF consortium, this technology is becoming more accessible and less intimidating, enabling high complexity, low volume manufacturers to understand the capability of Digital Twins to maximize quality and efficiency.
