> Digital Twin
What is Digital Twin?
A digital twin is a digital representation of an observable manufacturing element (OME) or system of OMEs. By synchronizing between the element and its digital representation (the digital twin), it brings numerous benefits.
The digital twin can also exist across the entire product lifecycle and uses aspects of the virtual environment (such as high-fidelity, multi-physics, external data sources), computation techniques (virtual testing, optimisation, simulation, prediction) and aspects of the physical environment (such as historical performance, customer feedback cost). All this helps improve the performance of a manufacturing system.
It can help detect anomalies in manufacturing processes and help deliver:
- Real-time control
- Predictive maintenance and health checks
- Synchronous monitoring/alarm
- Manufacturing operations management (MOM) optimization
- In-process adaption
- Big data analytics
- Machine learning
